POP IN PERSSON
One of the less well recognized designers at Rorstrand is Inger Persson. Her brightly coloured POP range in the 60s is probably her best known design, this candlestick vase is typical of the range with great saturated colours, and for the serious collector the 'must have' is the teapot in orange. Poptastic!

BACK TO SCHOOL
Pull up a chair tomorrow at the Dublin Flea in Newmarket Square. If you are going to have a seat, why not have a cute bentwood school chair from the 50s to remind you that you won't have to go back to school on Monday! Poa info@kirkmodern.com

GO ON, GO ON, GO ON....GO ON!
The Dublin Flea is on this Sunday and apart from the usual great selection of retro vintage pieces, great tea, coffee and food the Fleas will be embracing the Streetfeast - a great initiative to encourage communities to put on a street party in their area. Check out their website www.streetfeast.ie - so on the 28th we will be lining the outside of the market with tables and chairs and want you guys to bring a dish to share with everyone. Anyone is welcome to join the table, stallholders and punters, and we'll be encouraging as much culinary participation as possible - salads, meats, breads, cakes, drinks.....deadly!

BOARD SHORTS
It seems everyone wants a vintage sideboard - they have become the focus of a lot of Mid Century interiors - but not everyone has the space for the large 2m+ units that were the norm in 60s and 70s.
This cute little teak unit could be the answer. Measuring up at just over 1.2m it will fit into the smallest space and has lots of really useful storage - 3 drawers and a cupboard with shelving. This one will make its debut at the Dublin Flea this Sunday 28th, but if you are interested please send for a factsheet containing dimensions and price to - info@kirkmodern.com - nice original pieces like this don't hang around for long! http://dublinflea.blogspot.com/

JUST BEACHY
These two shop display boards from the 1950s are really reminiscent of the John Hinde postcards. The saturated colour and styling is pure Butlins Holiday Camp. Nobbly knees contest anyone?

ORANGEMENT
The sun is out, and to celebrate we have gone all "David Dickinson" and pumped up the orange. LOUNGE AROUND
One of the major designers of the 20th century, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of Modern Architecture. He is often associated with the aphorisms "less is more" and "God is in the details". One of his most enduring furniture designs is the MR40 chair he designed in 1931, made from tubular chrome steel frame, leather straps and leather upholstered covering, a real design classic. We have a pair of these iconic lounge chairs available POA.

A GOOD EYE
This is clever. A mid century modern checklist of who's who in chair design in the form of an eye test 43x29cm poster! Very cool, and makes a perfect shopping list - Eames, Aarnio, Bertoia, Jacobson - you can work your way down and as you buy each one just put a little tick beside it. Available framed or unframed POA info@kirkmodern.com

HOMEWORK
Sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This vintage 2 seater sofa was in a sorry state when it arrived. It was being used as a garden seat and was sun bleached and watermarked. Look beyond the damage and you will see a Scandinavian gem, albeit in a rough state, solid teak frame with beautifully turned and tapered legs. Restoration is underway, the wood is being brought back to life and next stage is to choose fabric and we have decided on using this original fabric designed by legendary Danish designer Nanna Ditzel in 1965. Always exciting to see the transformation as an original piece being brought back to life and I will post updates as the project progresses.
