TWO NICE

It's my birthday soon - honest, and anyone who finds themselves in London and just won the lottery can become my nbf by picking up this little number from Alfies. Designed by Prince Sigvard Bernadotte (Sweden) in 1954 this two-seater sofa was made by France & Sons of Denmark in mahogany and re-upholstered in leather.

LAST TANGO

Tango glass is a technique originally created by Loetz in the 1930's it was reproduced by companies such as Kralik, Welz. Tango glass usually consists of a blown glass vase in a bright colour, usually orange, with applied glass decoration in another darker colour such as black or blue. This stunning elegant piece is just over 32cms tall and a great example reminiscent of the Carnaby and Palette ranges by Per Lutken and Michael Bang for Danish companies Holmegaard and Kastrup.

HIGH LIGHT

This stylish Italian standard lamp is one of the best examples of 1950s lights I have come across recently. A completely original piece, from the metal tripod sputnik legs to the beautiful black and cream ribbon shade. The centre column glides up and down to make the height fully adjustable. A real statement piece and a great addition to any retro interior. POA

THE WRITE STUFF

In the early 1950s people generally had less space in their homes, they wanted lighter airier pieces that didn't have the solid heavy look of their predecessors. The Festival of Britain in 1951 brought new shapes and new ideas and initially these signature elements were incorporated into furniture using traditional stained oak and later lighter teak. This neat little bureau has just popped up and is a great early 1950s example, a contemporary shape with tapered splayed legs and sliding striped glass doors. It is selling on a 'first come' basis. Judging by the response to the last bureau it won't be around for long! POA info@kirkmodern.com

SHABNER CHIC

Retro prints by Tretchikoff and JH Lynch are very much in demand and it is getting incredibly hard to find good examples. One artist who is up there in the kitsch hall of fame is Lou Shabner whose work is highly sought after in USA and Japan but hasn't received the same attention this side of the world. His name, and the look of portraits, suggests he might be American, but he was in fact born in Enfield in UK and is said to have based the first portraits on Jackie O. I have a collection of Shabner prints for sale at the moment and first up is this beautiful portrait of Melanie is a fine example in her original frame. POA

Designed by Enid Seeney in 1956 "Homemker" has become the ceramic design that encapsulates the era because it includes so many iconic homeware designs of the 50s.

DRESSER TO IMPRESS

This has to be the cutest dressing table you will see this year. Made from teak with beautiful neat proportions and fabulous angled legs this is a little stunner. Made in Denmark, it has all the hallmarks of an Arne Vodder piece, but is not signed. The crystal clear mirror reflects the geometric glass top with green graphic pattern and lifts this piece to a different level. POA.
