DISH OF THE DAY

Carl Harry Stålhane (1920-1990) is a legendary Swedish art ceramist with a more than 40 year long career at Rörstrand pottery. This is a beautiful unique studio pottery dish which is typical of his experimental style with glazes. A large shallow dish in earthy tones and rugged form with thickly applied glaze it would make a great table centrepiece. POA info@kirkmodern.com

WIRED ABOUT EAMES

This is an exciting find from my recent UK trip - an Eames wire chair with Eiffel tower base and original "Bikini" seat pads in a groovy 50s green. Introduced in 1951 this chair was an immediate success due to the strong but lightweight construction. Distinctively Eames, the wire chair is a design icon and a great statement piece in any setting. ROCKING RETRO

A really comfortable retro rocking armchair is hard to beat, and this is one of the best I have found. Made by Cintique, a traditional furniture maker established in 1908, this is a really solid piece of furniture that will last a lifetime. Solid ash frame fitted with their unique Spring Rocker System and covered in a soft moss green velour with button back and winged arms, this chair is in tip top condition and is one of the most comfortable vintage chairs you will ever sit in. SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL

Apartments and houses seem to be getting smaller and storage space is at a premium, so it's no surprise that I get asked most often for neat pieces of furniture that have a retro look. Several smaller pieces have just arrived including bedside cabinets, chest of drawers and sideboards, and this has to be the cutest sideboard on the block. A small G Plan unit, 2 drawers with one side cabinet, 91cms long x 40 deep and at an amazingly small price under €140! This piece would be equally at home as a TV unit, bedroom storage or squeezed into an alcove. More details available about this and other new arrivals from info@kirkmodern.com

Designed in 1954, these Kokos pieces are all hand crafted, each one slightly different, and are extremely hard to find. BODY OF WORK

Industrial design has become a huge part of the MidCentury scene in UK with interior designers. Anatomical and medical posters are now highly collectable and good original examples get snapped up really quickly as very few ever come on the open market. We have this great example by Adam Rouilly & Co printed in London in 1947 - a graphic representation on linen paper with the original roll on pole mounting. In a London shop expect to pay £300+, our price for this one is just €175! For more details, or to view contact - info@kirkmodern.com

MIDCENTURY STYLE

The 1950s saw many artists becoming involved with the decorative arts. Their stylized designs often reflected the fascination of the time with space, ballet and foreign travel. This beautiful rosewood coffee table has a stunning tiled top decorated with long necked carafes and linear graphics reflecting the influence of Italian design. A compact 93cms long, edged in rosewood with elegant tapered legs, this is a sophisticated, original retro piece. The Dublin Brocante is this Sunday 16th, and this elegant table will be on display. POP IN PERSSON

One of the less well recognized designers at Rorstrand is Inger Persson. Her brightly coloured POP range in the 60s is probably her best known design, this candlestick vase is typical of the range with great saturated colours, and for the serious collector the 'must have' is the teapot in orange. Poptastic!
